Eight Years at a Film Festival

Social media lead, festival photographer, and curator of the German competition. Volunteer work since 2018, and the only part of my portfolio that is purely about judgment rather than throughput.

Why this is on a portfolio at all

Everything else here is about making more things happen more reliably. Curating a competition is the opposite discipline: sitting with a large number of films and deciding which ones are good. There is no pipeline for that and no metric that settles it.

It belongs here because the two turn out to be related. Knowing what "good" looks like is what lets you build a system that produces it — the brand-voice work at NaschNatur was the same problem in different clothes.

What I do there

  • Curation of the German competition — watching submissions and shaping the programme
  • Social media management — running the festival's channels through the year and intensively during the festival
  • Festival photography — documenting the festival across multiple editions
  • Media presence — coordinating how the festival appears in press and online
  • The 2020 festival trailer — produced and cut below

Eight years

I've been at this festival across four employers and one degree, and I expect to still be there after whatever comes next.
